This facility, designed
by Baker Barrios Architects and RDG, comprises 80,000
square feet of classrooms and offices, as well as a
gymnasium, racquetball courts, aerobics area,
cardiovascular room, weight room, jogging track,
equipment area, laundry, workroom, locker rooms, sales
area, lounge, snack bar and maintenance shop.
A serpentine curtainwall integrates with a brick
exterior skin to create unique interior spaces. The
main fitness area features over 3,000 square feet of
cardio equipment overlooking the 5,500 square foot
first floor weight training area and existing outdoor
pool. The main rotunda also features a 40-foot
climbing which allows this facility to rival many of
the first-class private fitness and recreation
facilities in the country.
The Recreational Services Building shares the South
Campus site with the University's Academic
Villages/Housing complex. The PPU team worked in
tandem with the housing team in the master planning of
the site.
This project won a 2002
Associated Buildings and Contractors Eagle Award for
Best in its Category.
