The Fredric G. Levin
College of Law is among the top law schools in the
country but by early 2000 the facilities, were crowded
and badly outdated. To remedy the critical space and
infrastructure deficiencies, the school underwent
significant renovation and expansion. The library was
expanded and now houses around 600,000 volumes. High
speed data capability gives students and faculty
access to another 75 million volumes in other UF and
university libraries. It also contains spaces for
individual and team-oriented group study; conference
rooms and classrooms.
New classrooms were also
added and updated to add space and provide state of
the art computer and multi-media technology. In all,
the project encompassed expansion and renovation to
231,000 sf of space. All of the work over the two year
construction period was carried out while classes
remained in session.
This project won a 2006
Associated Buildings and Contractors Eagle Award for
Best in its Category.
