University of Florida Basketball Practice Facility

Owner/Client: University of Florida Athletic Association

Location: Gainesville, FL

Completion Date: August 2001

Project Size: 36,000 gross square feet

Project Cost: $8,000,000

This stand-alone practice facility provides full-size practice courts and team spaces for the men's and women's varsity basketball programs and has been the centerpiece of the University Athletic Association's plan to build national championship caliber basketball programs at the University of Florida. This Gator practice facility was the first private, basketball-exclusive venue of its kind in the Southeastern Conference and has been viewed by athletic officials at other schools as a model they could build on. The building includes administrative spaces for both programs, team rooms, weight rooms and training areas, together with state-of-the-art video technology. Elevated balconies over both practice courts provide an observation platform for coaches and players.

The impressive front side rotunda, with its custom spiral staircase, and all other public areas, showcase the Gators success with displays of trophies, banners, awards and the history of Gator Basketball.

This project won a 2002 Associated Buildings and Contractors Eagle Award for Best in its Category.
